Dirk Krausmüller is a Research Fellow in Byzantine Cultural History at the AHRB Centre for Byzantine Cultural History for 2001. Last year he completed his PhD thesis Saints’ Lives and Typika: the Constantinopolitan Monastery of Panagiou in the Eleventh Century, at Queen’s University Belfast.

Annabelle Parker is co-founder/editor of Golden Horn. She finished her M.A. in Byzantine/Medieval Studies at Rijksuniversiteit Groningen in 1992, focussing on the Desert Fathers/-Mothers. She is marketing manager at Edita KNAW. In her spare time she works on a critical edition of the Vita Syncleticae.

André de Raaij is a social historian (University of Amsterdam) whose interests involve currents in religious anarchism in The Netherlands and elsewhere. He is one of the founders of Golden Horn.

Peter Beatson, Ph.D. (Microbiology) is a ‘living history’ enthusiast from Sydney, Australia. He has written several reviews on archaeological and historical matters for his fellow hobbyists, and he reconstructs historical artefacts for a living. His main interest in Byzantine Studies is the everyday life of Byzantines around the turn of the 10-11th centuries.

Annabelle Parker is a Byzantinist, who works on a thesis involving a critical edition of the Vita Syncleticae. Currently she is translating the Wisdom of St Isaac into Dutch.

Edip Aydın is in the 3rd year of a Master of Divinity program at St.Vladimir’s Orthodox Theological Seminary in Crestwood, New York and writing his thesis on ‘The History of the Syrian Orthodox Church in North America: Challenges and Opportunities’. Also, he is involved in Christianity A to Z, the Bimillenium Christian Dictionary project, contributing up to seventy entries about the lives of the saints in the Syriac liturgical tradition.

Karin White is in the final year of her PhD degree. Her research is focussed on the relationship between Roma (Gypsies) and settled people in Byzantium in comparison with such relationships today, in former Byzantine territories.

Ann Moffatt is a lecturer in the Department of Classics and Modern European Languages at Australian National University and one of the founding members of AABS.

Gabriel Rabo ist Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Lehrstuhl für Syrische Kirchengeschichte an der Universität Göttingen. Er kommt aus Hah/Tur ‘Abdin (Südosten der Türkei) und hatte als Schüler das syrische Priesterseminar Mor Gabriel in Tur ‘Abdin besucht. Nach dem Studium der katholischen Theologie an der Universität Eichstätt schreibt er eine Doktorarbeit über Paulinenauslegung des Dionysius Yakub Bar Salibi (+1171) und seinen Kommentar zum Römerbrief.

Dirk Krausmüller lives in Munich, where he works on his PhD. He has done Byzantine Studies in Munich and at Birmingham University, and he spent a year (’82-’83) at Dumbarton Oaks. He has published articles on Byzantine monasticism, most recently in Work and worship at the Theotokos Evergetis, c. 1050-c. 1200, Belfast, 1997, and in Gouden Hoorn.

André de Raaij is politicoloog en sociaal-historicus. Hij werkt aan een biografie van de Nederlandse christen-anarchist Felix Ortt (1866-1959). Hij maakt sinds de oprichting van Gouden Hoorn deel uit van de redactie.

From being a medieval re-enactor Tim Dawson came to tertiary study late with an established interest in Byzantium. B.A. Honours in Classics at the University of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Thesis topic: Byzantine slavery from Justinian to Leo the Wise. He is presently engaged in a further degree at the University of New England, New South Wales, Australia on the subject of the evolution of middle Byzantine court dress.

Neurez Atto is a Suryoyto Student in Culture, Organization and Management at the Free University in Amsterdam. She was born in a village called Mzizah in Turkey’s South-East in Tur ‘Abdin area. She has lived in the Netherlands since 1980.

Edip Aydın holds a Bachelor of Divinity degree from Heythrop College, University of London. He is currently doing an MSt course in Syriac Studies at the Oriental Institute, University of Oxford. He has recently translated into Syriac The Bible in the Syriac tradition by Sebastian Brock. At present he is working on a “Survey of twentieth-century Syriac Literature” under the supervision of Dr Brock. He is a member of Campion Hall, Oxford.

Andrew Palmer is Lecturer in Eastern Christianity. Momenteel werkt hij aan een nieuwe editie, vertaling en commentaar op de Hymnen over het Geloof, van Ephraïm de Syriër. Verder maakt hij een boekje over christenen en Yezidis in Zuid-Oost Turkije, uit de bron van wat de christenen, Yezidis en Moslems van dat gebied zelf zeggen. Ook is hij van plan om een boek over de legende van Koning Abgar van Edessa te schrijven en een film te maken met als titel In Search of Saint Thomas and the Origins of Asian Christianity.

Anthony Kirby is research associate at Queen’s University Belfast. He specializes in archaeology, poetry, film and travel.

Stephen McCotter‘s PhD-thesis, entitled The Strategy and Tactics of Siege Warfare in the Early Byzantine Period: From Constantine to Heraclius was examined in September 1995 at Queen’s University Belfast. It was suggested by Jim Crow of the Archaeology Department of the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and supervised by Margaret Mullet, with some assistance from Jim. Since then he has been working as Teaching Assistant in Byzantine Studies at Queens, and is currently also employed in a similar capacity by the Ancient History department.

Sophia Oikonomou completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Crete, Greece. She is interested in the study of orthodox monasticism and especially of foundation documents of monasteries, the so-called typika. She is currently working on her PhD thesis The Testament of Ioannes Xenos: critical edition and commentary at King’s College, University of London, supervised by Prof. Judith Herrin.

Margaret Kenny is currently finishing her M.A. degree in Byzantine Studies at the department of Greek, Roman and Semitical Studies at the Queen’s University, Belfast.

Anthony Kirby is a Byzantinist, graduated at Queen’s University, Belfast, where he specialized in Archeology. He expresses his love for travelling in poetry.

Jonathan Harris studied Ancient and Medieval History at King’s College London and Royal Holloway College, London. He is now a Research Fellow at University College London. His Ph.D. thesis was Greek refugees and immigrants in western Europe during the fifteenth century (1993) which was published last year by Porphyrogenitus as Greek Emigres in the West 1400-1520.

Peter Hatlie teaches Byzantinology at the Rijksuniversiteit Groningen.
